Chandeliers enhance a room’s character. For rooms that are decorated with antiques, a small crystal chandelier would be in keeping with such elegant surroundings. For more modern interiors, brushed nickel chandelier lighting sets the mood for delightful evenings entertaining guests. Whatever type of chandelier goes well with your decorating sensibilities, some maintenance is necessary for keeping the lighting as decorative as it is functional. Apart from regular cleaning, expect bulb changes to be part of the maintenance procedure.
Changing bulbs in a hanging chandelier is a pretty simple task. Here is how you do it:
Simply turn on the light switch for the chandelier and note which bulbs require replacement. Take note not only of the number of bulbs that you would need, but also the wattage in which they come in. Switch off the lights, and run down to your hardware to purchase the replacement bulbs. Opt for green (referring to the environment, not the color) energy-efficient bulbs that may be initially more expensive but will save you money in the long run. It might be a good idea to buy extra bulbs to be held in reserve as well.
Once back home, get a step ladder and position it under the chandelier. Make sure that the chandelier is turned off and that the bulbs are cool before you start working. Climb up on the ladder and get steady footing.
Remove a burned-out bulb by grabbing it firmly but gently, then turning it counter-clockwise to unscrew it from the socket. Insert the replacement bulb into the socket and turn it clockwise until it is securely attached. Repeat this procedure until all burned-out bulbs have been replaced.
Once this is finished, climb back down and turn on the light switch. All bulbs on the chandelier should light up. Be sure to dispose the burnt-out bulbs properly, recycling it if possible.
